JMS Pro Photo
Equipment
At JMS Pro Photo, our goal is to provide professional quality images and
graphics for our customers. Equipment is equally as important as the experience
and talent of the photographer and the graphic artist.
We utilize some of the latest digital technology available. Camera bodies
include the D2X, D70 and D100 manufactured by Nikon. When needed, we also have
Nikon film equipment on hand. In addition, we carry a full range of basic,
telephoto and wide-angle Nikon lenses. We believe quality equipment is essential
to produce quality results. Top-of-the-line flash equipment, from Nikon and
Norman, help us “capture the moment” when additional lighting is required.
While most image printing is currently done by outside labs, we do use an
Epson PHOTO 2200 in house. Epson’s Ultra Chrome inks deliver archival results
with a lightfastness rating of up to 108 years for color prints, and up to 140
years for black and white (B&W) prints. The professional quality and durability
of our images is very important to us.
Initial processing and editing of our images is completed in our own office
using state-of-the-art computers and software. When shooting away from home,
laptop computers enable us to meet critical deadlines, maintain contact with
publications and most importantly, communicate with our clients/customers.
Recently I was asked what my thoughts were on the digital revolution. I
believe digital technology has returned the processing lab back to the
photographer. At one time, photographers worked late into the night processing
negatives they had exposed earlier in the day. Contrast and brightness were just
two of the photo qualities under their control. They could not turn a bad image
into a great one but they were able to improve even some of the best images.
With the advent and popularity of color film, it was too expensive for most
photographers to process their own images. Excellent processing labs solved that
problem. Now, however, we seem to have passed through the period when processing
and image adjustments were left solely to the outside labs.
Although final printing may still be done by the lab, photographers once
again have the opportunity to better control the final appearance of their
prints. I enjoy the return of near total control of how my images look.
I believe the “digital revolution” is fantastic and eagerly look forward to
the challenges the latest technology will bring. Digital technology is gaining a
“head of steam” and I believe, the best is yet to come!
